Whether you are new to this journey or have some experience, this is the organization that is dedicated to providing you with the most updated information about cannabis in order to help you build an evidence-based practice and care for your patients. With the advancement of medical and adult use of cannabis within the United States, as seen on the map below, it is more important than ever to be well informed about risks and benefits of cannabis.

Our original founder put it this way, “Out with reefer madness and marijuana and in with the science of the endocannabinoid system and the healing properties of cannabis. It is exciting and rewarding to be a part of this major patient advocacy effort to end cannabis prohibition.”~ ML Mathre Founder

Today, 49 states have programs that include cannabis. It is important to learn and understand about your state’s program as they vary from state to state. Just as important, as nurses it is our time to make the most of our position in healthcare, to influence in positive ways the importance of medical cannabis and to shepherd its acceptance into mainstream medicine. We encourage you all to embrace the important role of the nurse as an essential member of the healthcare team, and to use your voice to advocate for patients as we move through the complex maze of transforming healthcare and embracing the end of cannabis prohibition and misinformation.

Historically, medical cannabis has been used as a remedy by health care practitioners, religious leaders, and individuals in search of self-enlightenment. Today nurses have the responsibility to educate patients, family members, caregivers and health care providers who seek guidance about cannabis as a therapeutic modality.

ACNA has as its mission: ‘To advance excellence in cannabis nursing practice through advocacy, collaboration, education, research, and policy development”. Our commitment is to provide evidence-based research and educational programs that will enhance our members knowledge. Our goals:

  • Discounts on educational programs
  • Free Webinars
  • Member forum in development
  • Private mentoring is available through our educational program offerings

We are a diverse, inclusive organization that educates and supports nurses throughout the United States who have chosen this cannabis pathway. We welcome you and encourage you to join us on our journey to care for our patient with this amazing therapeutic modality. “Every patient deserves an educated nurse”.
